Project description

4 to 6 Cyclones are predicted to impact the island of Fiji annually. As a scenario this compounded by lack of conventional building materials due to its remote nature. Therefore alternatives are needed

The design proposal is a Research and Training Centre that looks to restore a damaged island through the promotion of Traditional Fijian Architecture and Cyclone Design Principles embedded in new landscaping as a prototype model for the in-between stage of post disaster recovery as a scalable model to outer island villages.

Niu Growth. The In-between, as a program and as pieces of architecture is not the ideal. It is a conversation, of the practical and the emotive.

A conversation between what we are able draw upon from our surroundings. A conversation with the resources of our environment, with the changing climate, the tidal waters that connect us and the connection to culture.

A conversation to be continued.
