My thesis looks at exploring the intrinsic relationship a school has on a semi-rural community whilst posing the question; can an alternate educational facility patch together inter-generational relationships, providing a critique of the current conventional education system. The project disassembles the traditional school, embedding its amenities and students throughout the existing urban fiber of North Arm Cove.
The intervention interweaves the sites complex layers of indigenous and colonial history, social and environmental concerns, to harmoniously marry the existing context and the introduction of the practically based education facility. Drawing on the data gathered as part of our research, the project responses to the overcrowding of classrooms in Port Stephens providing an alternative learning environment for young adults ages 16-18 to learn and grow.
