My project is an artist residency specifically designed for the emerging artists who do not have access to or cannot afford a workspace or studio of their own in their current living space. More often than not, these emerging artists also struggle to get better exposure due to the exorbitant cost of hiring a studio or renting a spot in the gallery. Thus, the project aims to provide these artists with a particular duration of stay at the facility to work and getting themselves involved in different activities, be it organizing art workshops, art therapy sessions, showcasing their work for the public etc. The project also aims to cater to the emerging traveling artists who either want to collaborate with another artist or experience exhibiting and working in a different culture.
The facility will consist of 25 accommodation units for the locals as well as traveling artists (at a nominal fee), gathering spaces for many other artists for talks/activity sessions, studio spaces for both collaborative work and individual private work, and gallery spaces to showcase their work to the public. The facility will be designed keeping in mind the surroundings most suitable for the artist's culture. The project would be situated at the appropriate location from where the connection with the other art networks does not become difficult. The location should allow visitors/traveling artists to explore the surrounding area of the city and understand the multicultural aspects of that city.
